110a Large Letter Reverse Capped Bust half dollar, PCGS XF40. A rare and very interesting die state. A lovely, original, very slightly crusty coin, without problems or distractions. The surfaces are super smooth, the luster is soft and pervasive, and the color is scrumptious. Just the way we like'em, and, based on our nearly 50 years in coins, we know you like'em that way too!
This is a Redbook variety that gets little in the way of attention, though that really shouldn't be There are 20 Overton varieties (known currently) dated 1829, and only one of them used a Large Letter reverse die (a holdover from 1828...28-118 to be exact). This is a very late die state, showing extended reverse cracks, is BHNC die state 110.5 (see below), and involves an actual "remarriage" of dies with the aforementioned 28-118. The BHNC has just recently published a long-awaited, comprehensive guide to the die states in this incredibly popular series.
